Interior Design is a multifaceted course that helps students to learn fascinating aspects of functional design and aesthetic use of the space. It ensures that students acquire a well-rounded knowledge about the concept of Interior Designing, ranging from the history of interior design and a conceptual understanding of graphic presentation, to ideal construction techniques and the roles of an interior designer. The core values in the curriculum are creativity, innovation, sustainability ethics, critical thinking, human-centered approach, and presentation media. These are achieved through the introduction of elements and principles of interior design, the study of the natural ventilation system using a wide range of illustration and drawing techniques. Trainees will also develop an awareness of the importance of color, light, texture, ergonomics, anthropometry, etc. in interior design. The course is structured to dissipate practical level skills in the subject to the students along with the theoretical understanding. Structured internships are arranged in various reputed construction firms during the course.
The Post Graduate Diploma in Interior Design and Construction (PGDIDC) is a one year program of two semesters. During the one year program, the trainees shall undergo a three month internship.
The first batch (2019) of PGDIDC trainees did their internship at ULCCS Ltd., Terra Amata Design Consortium Chennai, SVABS Architecture & Interiors Chennai and at PKR Menon & Associates Kochi. The excellent performance of most of the trainees secured them further opportunities within the same companies. The second batch (2021) of PGDIDC trainees did their internship at Bond Interiors International Ltd, Trivandrum.
