PLACEX-2018 for Industry Academia Interventions to reduce skill gap

Indian institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) based at Chavara, Kollam is organising National skill and Placement workshop- PLACEX 2018 at Recca Club, Kochi on 18th December 2018. It envisages in identifying the Current trends in skilling across the country which includes immediate skill needs and future skills, Current Academia Industry Skill gap, possible industry interventions and Immediate Placement opportunities in different sector skill councils. IIIC is organising this workshop as part of facilitating better opportunities for placement for the students of IIIC, DDUGKY and UL Skill academy. IIIC is (www.iiic.ac.in), a joint venture of Kerala Academy for Skill Excellence (KASE) and ULCCS, is involved in appropriate skilling to promote employability among the educated unemployed youth of Kerala. The institute is currently offering eight courses during the first phase at Technician, Supervisory and Managerial level. During the second phase the institute is planning to offer around twenty courses at different levels including Construction &Infrastructure, Electrical &Electronics, Mechanical &Automobile, IT & Computer Sciences and courses catering the services sector like Retail, Hospitality, logistics, engineering services, data science, etc.Currently the institute has more than 250 students and Govt. of Kerala is planning to enhance the capacity to 1600 by October 2019. As part of identifying prospective courses which can generate appropriate placement, institute is organizing one day workshop namely PLACEX 2018 through industry interface. Experts from Industry, Academia, Government, ULCCS and Potential Employers will participate in the workshop to be held at RECCA Club, Kakkanad, Cochin from 9 am to 4 pm on 18th December 2018. Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Sri. Madhu S Nair will inaugurate the workshop at 9.30am on 18th December 2018. ULCCS Chairman Sri.RameshanPaleri will preside over the function. KASE MD Sri. Chandrasekhar IAS, Sri.Shaju.S, Managing Director of ULCCS, Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Director of UL education, Sri. Raveendran Kasthuri, CEO, UL Cyber park, Dr.Sajikumar, Chairman, Confederation of Indian industry, Kerala, Sri.M.S.SajithUnni, Regional Head, NASSCOM, Dr.NajeebZackeria, Chairman, CREDAI and Kerala and . Sri. Zakaria, Chairman, Builders Association of India will offer felicitations. Sri. ShilanSagunan, Chairman Malabar Innovation & Malabar Angels, Dr.D.Chitraprasad, Director, IIIC, Dr.Shinto Paul, Senior Design Manager ULCCS, Sri.L.K.Prasad, Managing Director, ACCELERON Labs, Bangalore, Sri.Jayaprakash, Vice President(Services) Popular Vehicles &Services Ltd, Kochi, Sri.Sheej.S, Facility Manager, Lulu group International, Smt. Meenakshi Sreenivasan, Director IBM(Application operation on Cloud) and Mr. Prasad G Nair, CEO, Maker village will present papers on opportunities for skilling in prospective sectors. Moreover brain storming and group discussions will be held as part of Placex. Around 100 representatives from industry and academia will participate in the one day workshop.
