IIIC Alumni ER. Ananthu g. Krishnan won the Bronze Medal in National level skill India Competition.

India skills, the biggest skill event in India was conducted from 6 January to 10 January 2022 at New Delhi. Fifty four (54) skill events have been conducted in this national level competition. The selection of candidates was done multilevel for each event. Candidates winning district level was to compete again at the state level. State-level winners competed for the regional level and the winners from the regional level competed for the national level. After the nationals, the winners got training. During the training period, experts evaluated and selected one person for each skill to represent India in Worldskills which is to be conducted in China in October 2022. Er. Ananthu G. Krishnan, a former student trainee at the Indian Institute of Infrastructure & Construction (IIIC, Kerala) participated in the nationals and won the bronze medal. His category was water technology, which is related to Water Treatment, Water Quality Analysis, Automation, Fault Finding and Rectification in EDS. Er. Ananthu writes “I won the Bronze medal in Water Technology event. During the district level competition, I was unaware of the contents of water technology. Just before the state level competition, we got an idea that what it was really, what are its content. An Engineering student (Polytechnic) also participate in this event. Electrical, Mechanical, Civil related items are also included in the competition. After the state level competition, we will get training. That will help us gain a lot of knowledge and give more experience.” A brief description of the items: ?Automation Edukit is an educational version of an automatic water treatment plant designed by Festo. Participants need to assemble the Edukit as per the layout. Edukit PAs are of two types, namely, basic and advanced. In advance instead of a pressure gauge, flow meter, the flow and pressure sensors are used. There two capacity sensors and one ultrasonic sensor is used for controlling the water level. ?EDS Environmental Discovery System (EDS) is an automatic sewage treatment plant. It was already assembled. The checklist documents were given to the participants had to be verified by them. Oxygen level must be maintained by aeration using software by consuming minimum power. ?Documentation A lot of cards were given to the participants. Each card is named as a different process in water treatment/sewage. Participants need to select seven cards and arrange them properly for the water treatment system. Participants had to give justification for selecting each card. ?Chemical Here, participants had to do tasks like the Jar test, for finding the optimum dosage of coagulant. Dilution of a solution and titration against it for finding the strength of the given solution. Finding turbidity, pH, Total dissolved solids. ?Virtual Reality By using Virtual Reality (VR) participants must identify and rectify the faults, take measurements, check the quality parameters of a sewage treatment plant. Kerala got 21 medals which included eight Gold, eight Silver, five Bronze medal. As a state, Kerala finished 2nd among the total of 23 states and union territories.
