International Youth Skill Day celebrated at Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC), Chavara, a joint venture with the Labor Department, Government of Kerala and Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) on 15 July, 2019. Director, IIIC Dr. D. Chitra Prasad conveyed to the audience and students about the skill day message of Minister of Labour& Excise, Shri TP Ramakrishnan. The gathering also participated in the Skill day Pledge taking ceremony. Three artisans who excelled in the craft of making palm mats, Mrs Suja, Mrs Karthika and Mrs Geetha from nearby Thazhava grama panchayath were honored for their excellence in their craft at this occasion. The students were also given an awareness about Rural Art Hub Project of the Government of Kerala. As a part of this movement, Students were introduced to the “ Thazhappaya Nirmana Gramam” at the village of Thazhava Panchayath. The project is being spearheaded by Sargalaya, a subsidiary of the Uralungal Labor Contract Co-operative Society in Vadakara in Kozhikode district. A lecture cum demonstration of palm weaving was also conducted by the artisans and they displayed a number of value added products crafted by them for the benefit of the audience. The Skill Day celebration ended at IIICC with a great message that possibilities of employment are many and that a great entrepreneurship can grow with just a little thought. K Raghavan, Director (Administration), UL Education and Commander Vinod Sankar, Head of Mechanical Department also addressed the gathering.
